Many home owners want to try the install themselves to save money. It can be tricky and time consuming but it is definitely doable! Although we would love to provide our services to you, we also want to be a resource to those with limited investment capital. We are often asked how to install artificial grass yourself? We will provide some basic steps as a guide to help you get started but please be sure to look at other resources to get an all-inclusive knowledge base or you can always speak with a professional directly. Prepare - the first step is to prepare the area by removing all grass, weeds, roots and debris and dig about a two and a half inch depth. Make sure to level the ground to prevent valleys and pooling areas. Barrier - lay a barrier to prevent weeds from growing. Aggregate - put down a layer of aggregate that is appropriate for the type of project you are creating, such as gravel. Smooth the aggregate with a rake. Tamp - compact the aggregate down with a tamper. Trim - lay the grass over the area and trim it to the size needed - remember to always allow a little excess that can be removed later. Seam - if using more than one roll of grass, seam the two together with artificial grass tape. Secure - use galvanized nails to secure the seaming cloth down, making sure it is taut and smooth first. Adhesive - apply carpet adhesive that the grass will lay on top of. Connect - lay the two pieces of artificial grass together at the seams over the adhesive and trim any excess. Remember to make sure it is taut and smooth. Secure the grass - you can use galvanized nails or landscape anchors around the perimeter of the grass and anywhere else that needs to be flattened down. Infill - spread the infill, like sand, to weigh the grass down. Rake - smooth out the grass by brushing or raking the sand to make the grass stand up. Make sure to rake in the same direction for a uniform appearance. Now that you're finished, you can enjoy your beautiful new landscape! If you are short on time or confused about where to start, contact us and we would be happy to complete the artificial grass install for you! You're just a call away from the landscape you've always wanted. |
